CCR Task 4

Online

In the pre-production we used the internet to research and plan our opening sequences. In terms of research, we used the youtube, Art of the Title, and other websites to research into different conventions, roles in production and genres to name a few. We used watched youtube channels such as realfakebloodfilms, Karolina Maria and Jachin's vidoes to do independent research into how to make our sequence better; so, for example, I did research into how to make fake blood, how to shoot with neon lights and how to make realistic cuts with makeup. The internet gave us a vast selection of information to better our sequence and educated ourselves and key themes to understand our genre and make it better.

Then, for planning we created a shot list and shooting schedule, this was good because we could all work on the same document and easily make changes later. The online aspect was useful for communicating quickly with each other and our actors

I found it useful to use the internet to research into titles. I used the website Art of the Titles to compare different title sequences and learn about the different production roles, fonts, transitions and colours that match to their genre. It was interesting to compare a title sequence like Grease that uses a lot of bright colours, bubble writing with a cartoon character to hint at the American high school musical theme. In comparison, American Horror story uses a lot of dark iconic horror items such as knifes, blood and disturbing baby photos. The font is in a gothic style which matches the theme of the haunted house. These elements, along with the title hint that the genre is horror.

We then applied what we learnt via the internet to our opening sequence. We used clear white titles so the writing would be easy to read against the neon lighting we used in our sequence. We made the titles quite bold and clear to juxtapose the unjustified violence creating a sense of mystery in depth. We did this because twisted narratives, unanswered questions and mystery are common trends in the thriller genre.
Pre-Production

Hardware
We used our Mac Book Pros to access the internet. We also used the camera app on our iPhones to film our test shoot.

Software

We used iMovie in the pre-production to edit together our test shoot. We did this to see what we wanted to improve and what we liked / wanted to keep. iMovie was a good software to use because it was quick and easy as a practice.
